BWCP, architects and planning consultants

BWCP, architects and planning consultants, is a small multi-skilled consultancy established 1972. Our work is varied: freeports, conversion of historic buildings, schools, industrial, housing, retail and visitor attractions. We lead the town planning and consultation strategy of our major projects.
BWCP designed the UK's first new apartment-hotel (Barbican), obtained permissions for a new condominium-apart-hotel at Aldgate East and for a 260-room hotel as part of a mixed-use development of Orbit House, Southwark, now Palaestra.
In Oxfordshire proposals for the Carmel College campus in 30ha of AONB; gave evidence to the local plan inquiry which has been recommended and accepted.
BWCP has been responsible for many live-and-work and residential conversions in Shoreditch, Clerkenwell and the City. In Greenwich town centre our scheme for 6 town houses has been built, as have proposals for the Trafalgar Tavern. We are advising the main boatyard servicing vessels on the Thames and Dupond's specialist bakery on planning matters having given evidence to the Greenwich UDP inquiry Inspector. Currently working on proposals for new uses for John Soane's Holy Trinity and St Mark's N Audley Street [Grade I] churches. In Camden we have permissions for a canal-side site and an office building in Chalk Farm Road, both won following appeals.
Brian Waters, principal of BWCP is Chairman of the London Planning & Development Forum, writes a regular planning guidance column in Architects' Journal and co-edits Planning in London.
