Projects carried out or underway in the UK include :

  • Securing planning and environmental approvals for Crossrail, currently Europe's largest infrastructure project to provide a major new railway running east-west across London and various other major infrastructure schemes including highways, airports, energy generation sector;
  • Working in alliances with several major utility companies, we provide Technical Advisor services, assisting these companies (including Anglian Water, National Grid) to deliver key infrastructure
  • Preparing Development Planning Documents for Local Authorities advising on soundness, including advice on Core Strategies (gap analysis) localism agendas, waste and minerals DPDs, Site Allocation DPDs, employment land reviews and traveller sites
  • Training up to 1000 Local Authority planners in 80 Local Authorities in using project management tools to assist them in progressing their LDFs and major applications;
  • Transport planning eg A3 Hindhead Tunnel Providing technical advice at Public Inquiries on planning policy including employment land, retailing and affordable housing, flood risk, heritage and urban design, transport accessibility and traffic impact and a range of other matters;
  • Masterplanning sustainable, low carbon developments including urban extensions, city centre regeneration sites and assessing projects to secure highest BREEAM ratings and applying technical knowledge of climate change mitigation and adaptation in our schemes
  • Secondments to Norfolk County Council Planning and Environmental Services team advising on waste and minerals planning, development management and appeal cases, site selection and sustainability appraisal.

Our clients include Local Authorities, regional bodies and statutory undertakings as well as developers and landowners. Our planners also play a leading role in urban development and regeneration schemes preparing and co-ordinating masterplans and complex applications, negotiating Section 106 contributions for major planning applications, acting as expert witnesses in planning inquiries on a range of topics from planning policy to site specific issues, Environmental Assessment, co-ordinating our in house environmental and design specialists. We maintain the highest professional standards working within current legislative and planning policy contexts to ensure projects are delivered which embrace principles of sustainability. There is extensive experience in strategic and local planning procedures and development control together with a regional perspective through involvement in various critical investment projects.

Our planners are able to ensure that the planning/environmental interface is taken fully into account in every project including ecological surveys and sustainability appraisal, contaminated land investigations, heritage and archaeology, health impact assessment. Our transportation and other specialists prepare traffic impact assessment,air quality, noise and vibration analyses. The Town Planning service includes the preparation and implementation of development strategies and the necessary discussion and negotiation with planning authorities and other public and private bodies relevant to specific proposals.

International - Urban Planning Services

Working in 140 countries and with nearly 50 international offices our staff bring understanding and diverse experience in institutional strengthening and aiding good governance, key skills in international urban planning.
