I joined Ward Associates Planning Consultants in 2004 with the specific purpose of helping establish its Planning Consultancy as a natural extension to the Company's existing range of environmental disciplines.
Since then, I am pleased to say that the Consultancy's work has grown healthily, as we have become involved with residential infill proposals, residential care homes, rural diversification projects, and retail developments.
Whilst I have mainly worked for private clients, I have also acted for a number within the public sector, providing, for example, witness evidence on behalf of two Councils at recent Public Inquiries. I will be the expert witness for a third Council during a Public Inquiry scheduled for the summer of 2006.
Arising, from my 28 years experience within Local Government, I have a considerable knowledge of the UK planning system, particularly with regard to development control. Prior to 2004, I was the Head of Development Control at Selby District Council, a position I had held since 1996. This placed me at the heart of decision making with regard to a range of proposals, from major retail development (in Selby Town), urban renewal, conservation schemes, rural diversification, and major employment projects.
I am therefore confident of being able to provide authorative advice with regard to development proposals at feasibility stage, planning applications themselves, enforcement matters, and appeals.
In my younger years, I gained a degree and diploma in Town Planning Studies at the University of Wales in Cardiff. This led to a period with the City of Manchester Council where I was involved in local planning projects, transportation studies and development control.
Having become a Chartered Town Planner in 1985, I moved across the Pennines in 1988, following my appointment by Selby District Council, to the position of Principle Planning Officer.
A licentiate Member of the RTPI who joined Ward Associates in December 2007. Shanshan secured an MA Degree in Town and Regional Planning from Leeds Metropolitan University in 2010. Shanshan brings to the consultancy a wide range of skills flowing from the company’s experience in handling planning applications, lodging appeals, responding to enforcement matters, as well as promoting major projects within the care sector.
